DEFORESTATION IN COLOMBIA...
In their order of importance, the main causes of deforestation in Colombia are: the expansion of the agricultural frontier, colonization, the construction of highways, the construction of mining and hydroelectric infrastructure, as well as the effects caused by oil exploration and exploitation, illicit crops, firewood consumption, forest fires, and commercial timber production.
Other causes of deforestation and deterioration of forests in Colombia are drug trafficking, violence and forced displacement of people to the jungles. For its part, drug trafficking has destroyed thousands of hectares of jungle in the country. The most affected ecosystems have been the Andean and Amazonian ones. In Colombia, for every hectare of poppy cultivated, 2.5 hectares of forest are destroyed and for every hectare of coca cultivation, two hectares of forest are destroyed.
